Nick Rerras's Issues
Real Estate Taxes
Nick understands that the ever-increasing real estate taxes threaten the American dream of homeownership. Nick successfully fought to win passage of his 20% real estate tax exemption constitution amendment this year. He was also the chief sponsor of legislation that would cap real estate tax increases to no more than 5% a year.
Improving Our Environment
Nick has worked to improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay. He supported record investments of over $500 million dollars for bay and river clean-up. Nick also strongly supports Virginia's conservation tax credit.
Transportation
Nick understands that time spent in traffic is time away from our families. That's why he has led the effort to reform VDOT and invest nearly $2 billion in new funds to improve our roads and transportation infrastructure across Virginia and especially here in Hampton Roads.
Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel
Senator Rerras is leading the fight to protect the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel's funding and independence. Nick understands that the CBBT is the best managed and maintained transportation structure in Virginia and the funds raised through tolls must only be used for CBBT improvements.
Electricity Rates
Nick has worked to ensure the re-regulation legislation requires that local power companies honor their agreements to provide fair "cost of service" rates.
Quality Schools
Nick has worked hard to ensure that our kids have the highest quality education. Nick supported historic investments in our public education, both K-12 and Virginia's colleges and universities. He has worked in ensure lottery profits are returned to our local schools and he has supported increased salaries for teachers. Nick also strongly supports neighborhood schools and maintaining our high academic standards.
Safe Neighborhoods
Nick has worked to support local and state law enforcement. Because of these efforts, Nick received the honor of being named "Senator of the Year" by Virginia Fraternal Order of Police and "Legislator of the Year" by the Virginia Sheriffs Association. He served as the chief sponsor for successful legislation to strengthen Virginia's Drug Fee School laws and reinstate a tough resisting arrest law. He also worked to pass the nation's toughest law cracking down on violent sexual predators who threaten our children.
