Senator Nick Rerras Releases List of Accomplishments for the Eastern Shore

Norfolk, Virginia - Senator Nick Rerras today released a list of a number of of his accomplishments on behalf of the citizens of the Eastern Shore.
Senator Rerras said "it has been an honor and a privilege to serve the Eastern Shore over the last 7 years." He went on to say "we have made a lot of progress towards making the Eastern Shore an even better place to live, work and raise a family. I look forward to continuing to serve the good people of the Eastern Shore and the entire 6th Senate District."
Nick Rerras is currently serving his second term as Senator for the 6th Senate District. The district covers part of Norfolk and Virginia Beach and all of Accomack, Mathews and Northampton Counties.
Senator Nick Rerras' Accomplishments
- Led the fight to protect the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (CBBT) funding and independence.
- Supported major new funding for cleaning-up the Chesapeake Bay.
- Obtained funds for High-Speed Internet for the Eastern Shore.
- Obtained funds for Eastern Shore ports & and the airport.
- Supported the new Chincoteague bridge.
- Fought for lower electric rates.
- Chief Sponsor of the School Safety legislation for the Eastern Shore.
- Chief Sponsor for a new study for the Spaceport at Wallops Island.
- Chief Sponsor for legislation to provide tougher penalties for people who interfere with volunteer fire fighters serving in the line of duty.
- Supported land conservation programs to help maintain the rural character of the Eastern Shore.
- Chief Sponsor of Golf Cart Legislation for the Towns of Saxis and Cape Charles.
- Sponsored the new "Resisting Arrest" law that makes our communities safer.
- Supported major new increases in education funding and increases in teacher salary.
- Chief Sponsor for the Chincoteague Arts District legislation.
- Sponsored and supported tougher DUI laws to make our roads safer.
- Helped with efforts to effectively manage the state's finances, keep our communities safe and improve our schools which resulted in Virginia being named the "Best Managed State in America".
- Chief Sponsor of legislation to display America' National Motto, "In God We Trust", in every public school in Virginia.
